Dear Mustafa,
Greetings!
Thank you for the brilliant concept of your enlightening website. I immensely enjoyed the images, especially, your story of "I enter Afghanistan for the first time in 23 years". What a wonderful style of writhing! it certainly awoken my memories and emotions that were held in suspended animations for many years. I made a similar journey back to my birthplace in 2002, after 32 years. I couldn’t express my first experience better than your wonderful story; thank you.
I am an educator; occasionally write about Kabul from an architect perspective. I would like to request, if possible, to use some of your images for my articles. Certainly, you will be credited in my publications. Please let me know.
Regards,

Salam Mustafa, I'm Italian and I've been in Afghanistan on sept/oct 2003 for a bit more than a month as a tourist. I entered from Mashad to Herat and crossed your great country through Maimana, Mazar, Jabal Saraj/Panshir, Kabul, Jalalabad to Peshawar. What to say.. I have been dreaming about this trip for years and now I have so many good memories that I'm planning to come back soon. Afghans have been kind with me and with my friend. This is a lesson for nations like mine who pretend to export democracy.. I wish you all some well deseved peace!

Hey last anonymous user, listen please. Many afghans liked Massoud, ban khairast. I do agree with you though the russians left only to now end up with america doing the same thing in Afghanistan.
Then again there is nothing we can do, mardoum az jang bezar astahn do you want them to do jihad against america too after 25 years of war?
Let's see what happens in the future, and lets home america will leave soon.

| I just want to thank you for a very engaging website. I am a British citizen who visited Afghanistan 30 years ago. Of all the places I visited on the old overland trek to India, I think it left the most lasting impression. A taxi driver in Kabul once told me that "Afghanistan is not a country, it is a family argument!" The pain experienced by the Afghan people since the Russian incursion has been long and hard. I cant think of another country that has suffered so much so long, with the possible exception of the Palestinian people. The hospitality and friendliness I was shown in Afghanistan was unforgetable and I pray that those qualities still exist a generation or more further down the line. If so, then surely left to their own resources they can come to live in peace together in a spirit of openess with the rest of the world.

It was a very emotional experiance. Thanks for sharing your personal impressions, awesome pictures, and videos. They really do capture the essence of the country. Zindabashi Afghanistan! ;-)

i believe that if one person believes you are a good person, then you are a good person. i believe that good people have no reason to be afraid. i believe that the people who are afraid are the ones who haven't figured out yet that they are good people. i believe that everything happens for a reason.
i believe that insanity is only what we don't understand. i believe that if a matter is not clear to us yet, it will be. i believe at this point on the timeline of human evolution that the only real disease in this world is fear. i believe that dis-ease is what causes one to suffer.

Salaam Mustafa, Welcome back dude, haven't heard from you in a long time, i just got back today from a long trip too. I read your journal for the first time, and the things you said made alot of sense to me, the world is a cold place and like the saying goes "the failing of yesterday are the learnings of tomorrow" and i hope Afghans here in Afghanistan learn from the mistakes of the Past. I was in Dubai and every girl you meet there is a Prostitute and most of them are muslims, who are brought their against their will by our own muslim people sometimes and their passport are taken away and they are forced to be prostitutes to make money. If we dont stop these kind of things in Afghanistan and help these people oneday their will be Afghan prostitutes all over the world. We afghans have pride and we should do whatever we can to help this cause. Women trafficking is the biggest problem in the world today, i met a journalist in kabul who had done stories on this issue and the things she told me were horrifying. Because of the War With Iraq these issues dont make headlines or front page stories but i hope the real people of the world wake up to this and do something about this. Oh yeah i prefer walking then driving in kabul also, good exercise, and fun being around the regular people of Afghanistan. aight man, take care, we got to hang out sometimes, i'll give you a buzz.

| within the confines of these prison walls, we pace back and forth yearning for the warmth of the afternoon light. A thousand candles are burned to fool the senses. They pace back and forth, and in their minds they are in the light. But the real light awaits for them outside the prison walls. And for those who yearn for this release and the warmth, they can only wait patiently for the prison walls to crumble, and for the radiance to pour in. On that day the radiance from outside, will consume all the candles and replace all false light.
